What is Buddy?
Buddy is a location based social network that is instantaneous. We feature the ability for people to connect based on common interests, location and time. More details are here:
Does my username have to be my actual name?
No, not at all - in fact, it is advised for privacy protection reasons to be very careful about what personal information you divulge on Buddy. Please read our privacy policy, located here:
You can put whatever you like in as your username, and you can change it as often as you like. Your username must conform to our Terms of Service (re: decency, language, inappropriate behaviour, etc...). Our Terms of Service are located here:
What if "My Status" is something not in the list?
Please send us any suggestions for "My Status", "Available As", "Looking For", etc... You can do that by participating in the Buddy Forums (http://forums.buddy.com) or sending us email via our contact page (http://www.buddy.com/Contact.aspx).
Where can my profile settings be visible?
When you enter data into the profile page on your Buddy client, it appears in two places - 1) in other people's "Buddy List" and, 2) on Buddy.com. Your listing will only appear on the Buddy List of users whose match criteria fit you. However, your profile details will appear on Buddy.com for anyone to see.
Why can't I add more than one photo to my profile?
Why also can't I have a bigger picture in my profile. Both of these are limitations that we actively plan to address in future versions of Buddy. For now though, only one picture of 200x200 pixels size is permitted per Buddy user.
Why can't I search for people younger than 14?
Why do you want to? Certainly there are real use cases where finding people under 14 is a reasonable scenario. But, allowing such functionality has such a risk of being abused that we're going to err on the side of common sense and concern for our customers. Buddy does not market itself to, nor encourage usage by, indviduals less than 14 years of age. Further, we strictly do not permit usage of Buddy by individuals younger than 14 years of age without parental supervision.
Why can't I search for people older than 99?
Seriously. If we have users legitimately older than 99 who also want to find people their age, we'll increase the limit. In the meantime, 99 is a cool number to max the search out on.
What do the distances "Walk", "Drive", and "Fly" actually mean?
Well, we wanted people to be able to select distance in an easy to understand way, and not need to worry about units of measurement, direct vs. road, etc... However, the distances roughly correspond to:
Walk = 0-5 miles from you
Drive = 5-100 miles from you
Fly = 100+ miles from you
Note that there is no limit on Fly - if you have a very obscure search, you could well find someone half the world away.
What do the "Fly" and "1 week" buttons up top of "Buddy List" mean?
Tap them! :)
By pressing these buttons you can easily cycle through the distance and last online filters without having to go back to the "Match Criteria" page. Tap them just once - multiple taps before the list of Buddies has been returned will be ignored. The distance button has three options - Walk, Drive, Fly and the last online button has three options as well - 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week.
Hey I see lots of people with blue or pink gender icons - how do I get one!
Very simple - those icons are our default icons for people who don't upload a picture of themselves. To "get" one, simply tap "Update Profile", then tap "Photo" in the top left of the screen. Pressing "Delete Photo" and then "Buddy List" will update the server that you've deleted your picture (and it will automatically substitute your default gender icon in its' place).
Is there a limit to the number of messages or gifts I can send per day?
Nope! You have no limit, and there are no SMS or other related charges aside from the data that you'll be using on either your cell phone carrier network or your wifi network (depending on which you're using). Go ahead and send away!
So I'm messaging this really hot girl and she's not replying. I think Buddy must be broken...
We have mechanisms in place to monitor the Buddy universe and odds are very good that should anything happen to bring down the Buddy network - we'll know a lot sooner than you. If we find a problem, the very first thing we'll do is post a message in the forums (
http://forums.buddy.com) and tweet a service update so folks are aware. Then we'll fix it as soon as we possibly can.
If you're being ignored by a fellow Buddy - consider that they either haven't logged in recently or perhaps they may not wish to communicate with you. In the case of the latter, we strongly advise you to find a new Buddy - firm action will be taken by those engaging in abusive or inappropriate behaviour via the Buddy network.
Why can't I log in on the website?
Actually, the website (http://buddy.com) is currently in beta - it is simply a window into the Buddy universe. You can look, but not "touch" so to speak! To start messaging people, sending gifts and messages back and forth, etc... install the Buddy application on your iPhone or iPod Touch!
