The first step doesn’t have to be the hardest

Effects of climate change are getting worse. Global emissions are projected to hit yet another record high in 2018, growing an estimated 2.7 percent over the previous year. While we know that China and India are big contributors of carbon dioxide, emissions in the US grew 2.5% from 2017-2018 even with more than 100 US cities committing to 100% renewable energy.

“It is hard to overstate the urgency of our situation. Even as we witness devastating climate impacts causing havoc across the world, we are still not doing enough, nor moving fast enough, to prevent irreversible and catastrophic climate disruption.”

With statements like this from United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the 24th annual U.N. climate conference in Poland that kicked off last week, it’s understandable how the enormity of the problem can feel overwhelming.

The reality, however, is that we can all contribute to positive change. Even if it seems like a drop in the bucket at first, we can make a difference.

As more and more businesses adopt environmental and social responsibility programs, one way to track efforts and communicate positive change is to first monitor your buildings’ energy use and track against energy efficiency programs and then share that back to your buildings’ occupants.

Buddy Ohm is a simple and affordable first step. It monitors your building’s energy resource use with automatic, occupant-facing dashboards built-in. It’s an easy way to start gathering actionable data to base data-driven decisions that can save your business time and money.
